I took the image and Photoshopped out the background......

Then created a 'negative'.....
.

.
Then sourced a jungle grasses image from the internet.......
.

.
And using the Photoshopped cat image on the Materials channel and the negative version on the Opacity channel, I was able to apply it to a plane with just the cat showing against a transparent background.
This is then animated in amongst some modelled grasses to complete the 3D effect....
